How do I get into employer branding?

Common routes are through recruitment, HR, marketing or communications. Build a portfolio of attraction content and EVP thinking, and learn measurement.

Most people arrive from adjacent fields, such as recruitment, HR, marketing or communications, and convert that grounding into a specialism. Build a portfolio that shows the thinking, not just the output: examples of attraction content, a worked EVP, or an audit of a company's careers presence you have analysed. Learn the measurement side too, because being able to connect work to hiring outcomes sets you apart from purely creative applicants. Follow practitioners, study strong and weak careers sites, and practise critiquing them. The pitfall is treating it as only content creation; the discipline is equal parts research, strategy, stakeholder influence and analytics, so show curiosity about why messaging works, not just the ability to produce it.
